‘That’s my ride home, but it’s not until five thirty. I came down in the minibus with the rest of them – all but our drug lord and his new fiancée. You got time for a coffee before I go and see the sights?’

Virgilio waved weakly in the direction of the accumulation of paperwork on his desk. ‘You go and have fun. I’m probably going to be stuck here for the next twenty-four hours. I’ll see you lunchtime on Sunday. Twelve thirty okay?’

I spent the next two hours walking through the streets of Florence, doing my best to concentrate on what I could see around me today rather than what had happened to Jonah Moore. I took a load of photos and visited two different churches, as well as the Medici Riccardi Palace, which would hopefully figure heavily in my book. Inside the imposing stone exterior was a delightful series of high-ceilinged rooms with frescoes and marble floors as well as the famous Chapel of the Magi, its walls completely covered in medieval scenes. By the time I emerged, I had successfully banished the mysterious death of Jonah Moore from my mind, but not for long. A newsagent’s in a side street had an impressive array of foreign newspapers on display and among these was yesterday’s copy of The Times. As my eyes ran over the front page, I was struck by a small article near the bottom on the right.
